It’s not much of a surprise that this lens was going to be huge. Just the concept of a 14mm f/1.4 brings up a very large lens in one’s head. But the first photos of Sigma’s upcoming 14mm f/1.4 DG DN Art series lens have leaked, courtesy of Sony Alpha Rumors.

The new lens is expected to be announced on June 8th at 8am Eastern, and Sigma has set up an online stage event for that date. There’s no word on how much the new lens will cost yet, but as well as the photos, the rumoured specs leaked last month, and they don’t appear to be any different now.

The lens will use the LC1014-01 lens hood to cover its massive 101.4mm opening on the front. And don’t worry about the big bulbous optic on the front, as this lens uses a rear holder for its filters. That will mean removing the lens to swap out your ND, though. In the top image, you can also see that this lens uses the TS-141 tripod collar. With a lens this chunky, it’s not much of a surprise that it needs one!

We’ll be keeping an eye on Sigma’s announcement tomorrow. This looks like a very interesting lens, and I’m curious to see what the results look like. Of course, anything Sigma shows off will be chosen to specifically show off the strengths of the lens, but I’m interested to see its real-world advantages outside of low-light events over other well-respected 14mm lenses that don’t have quite so wide an aperture.
