Although V90 cards are the pinnacle of speed when it comes to UHS-II SD cards, V60 cards are still fast enough to cover the needs of most users – even shooting high bitrate 4K video. The one thing that those video shooters do need, though, are high-capacity cards. Well, ProGrade Digital has today announced its new high-capacity 512GB UHS-II V60 SD cards.

The new card expands ProGrade’s Gold series of cards, adding to the existing 128GB and 256GB cards, and offers write speeds of up to 130MB/sec with sustained write speeds guaranteed to be a minimum of 60MB/sec. And while you might scoff at a V60 card, that 60MB/sec equates to 480Mbps. Plenty enough for many cameras and at less than half of the price of ProGrade’s Cobalt series 512GB V90 card.

The new 512GB ProGrade Gold V60 SD card has a maximum read speed of up to 250MB/sec, with burst write speeds of up to 130MB/sec. The burst write speeds are great for when you’re shooting stills and just need to clear the buffer quickly as you shoot bursts of images in continuous shooting mode. The minimum sustained write speed is 60MB/sec, which means you can shoot video with codecs up to 480Mbps guaranteed and potentially higher.

For many video shooters out there, this is still a perfectly acceptable speed. Even the Panasonic GH5’s 10-Bit 4:2:2 4K footage is only 400Mbps and easily fits in the V60 speed limits. If you’ve got a camera that shoots higher, up to 600Mbps then you may still need a V90 card. But most cameras coming out these days that shoot that high of a bitrate have dual UHS-II and CFexpress slots – and a CFexpress card is cheaper than V90 card these days anyway.

As with the other cards in ProGrade’s UHS-II V60 Gold lineup, they’re tested and certified to guarantee their read and write speeds and optimised specifically for video use. Refresh Pro monitors the health of the card and allows you to refresh it back to factory condition. Each card is also laser etched with a unique serial number allowing them to track the entire history of the card back to manufacturing for support purposes and comes with a three-year warranty.

The ProGrade Digital 512GB UHS-II V60 Gold SD card will be available to pre-order soon for $199.99 and is expected to start shipping before the end of the year.
